ANATOMIC PATHOLOGY
1. Board certified or eligible in Anatomic Pathology
2. Certification or eligibility in Clinical Pathology desirable
Privileges:
1. Prepares or supervises:
a. Description and examination of gross tissue specimens
b. Selection of appropriate blocks for sectioning
c. Tissues for microscopic examination, including frozen sections, and a variety of special
strains and special microscopic techniques, eg.g., electron microscopy and
immunofluorescence
d. Diagnosis of all material submitted, transmitting appropriate information to submitting
physicians
2. Consults with other physicians
3. Examines patients as deemed necessary
4. Participates in evaluation of various surgical or other procedures accomplished or proposed by the
hospital staff
5. Prepares reports on students and housestaff and accepts or rejects as deemed appropriate by him
6. As approved by the Clinical Chief of Pathology, treats patients with certain diseases in
consultation with other physicians, e.g., therapeutic apheresis or transfusions
7. Performs needle aspiration at superficial lesions in consultation with other physicians
CLINICAL PATHOLOGY
1. Board certified or eligible in Clinical Pathology
2. Certification or eligibility in Anatomic Pathology desirable
Privileges:
1. Prepares or supervises, when requested:
a. Collection of blood by venepuncture
b. Collection of marrow by aspiration
c. Various staining and biochemical procedures in material from patients
d. Examination by all types of microscopy of patient materials
e. Interpretation of any or all findings
2. Consults with other physicians, including examination of patients, as requested
3. Treats patients with certain diseases in consultation with other physicians, e.g., therapeutic
apheresis or transfusions
4. Participates in evaluation of various diagnostic procedures accomplished by the
hospital staff
5. Prepares reports on students and housestaff and accepts or rejects as deemed appropriate by him
